On this World Refugee Day 2024, we are pleased to announce a Flore Foundation grant to Bread & Roses – an organisation based in London which runs floristry training programmes in the UK and abroad, supporting women from refugee backgrounds to rebuild their lives.
These unique programmes, through exposure to floristry in a supportive group environment, facilitate learning professional skills with therapeutic benefits, improving English and confidence speaking, building networks and new friendships, and helping in signposting and accessing community services.
Though this partnership, Flore Foundation will fund a Bread & Roses training programme for 10 refugee women in London over this fall, continuing an ongoing partnership between Bread & Roses and Baytree Centre, an organisation based in Brixton which provides holistic support for women and girls including integration support for refugees and new migrants. In addition, our grant will provide funding for an updated impact study on the overall Bread & Roses programme, conducted by 180 Degrees Consulting.
Over this World Refugee Week, I could not help but think that Flore passed away before the conflict in Ukraine, the resurgence of the refugee crisis in Afghanistan, and we know that she would want to be supporting those affected, having been moved by these humanitarian crises and driven to help in her own way. The testimonials and feedback from past participants of the Bread & Roses programmes are really moving, and we wanted to share one here:
At the beginning of the course I did not feel very well. I needed psychological help. For me, the course worked out depression. I stretched myself to come here. After each visit I felt much better and the flowers at home always reminded me that life can be beautiful and enduring like a bouquet. N, Ukraine
We are excited to start this next chapter of Flore Foundation in the UK and Europe and thank you all for your continued support.
